According to 3D print magazine is high end plastics filament one of the five main 3D trends for 2017.
But not every trend is just about technology. The other 4 trends are workflow streamlining with CAD integrated software for 3D prints, quality control of 3D printed parts, lower pricelevel of metal printers and innovation in filament materials like multimaterial and conducting materials.
3D print magazine recognizes big interest in special filament material like PEEK and PEI for FDM printers (also called FFF printing). FDM is the by far the biggest market and in 2016 PEEK and PEI appeared to be the 'buzzwords'. There are a few manufacturers who claim to have special nozzles for high temperature thermoplasts. Because of the temperature resistance of PEEK (around 300 degrees Celcius) the material is hard to control for printing. Off course the technology is more complex than just a special nozzle. Therefore as well the print quality as the pricing differs a lot between the few brands offering a 3D PEEK printer.
Tractus3D has shown to control this technology very well with the Tractus3D T650P RTP which is on the market since April 2016.
